Daisy's Big Swing (pages 1-7)

I rescanned the first 3 pages so the updated versions are more complete and clean.

Art Ed shirts, take 2

Someone brought to my attention the fact that no one may get our Kendall inside joke of "bad eddie" so I made just an "art ed" shirt.

La dee dah.

Turns out I can actually use the dog part of it for my print making project, woohoo! No more emo-ish black stitching or whatever else my collagraphs were turning into. So I am going to try out a water-color transfer process, somewhat of a monotype, I guess.

Also, I had been thinking a lot about starting a website to show case my art, somewhat of a digital portfolio, something that looked professional. Well, I have no web-site building skills whatsoever, but someone did point out that I could just use DeviantArt's portfolio function. I didn't think much of it before, but it dawned on me that (duh!) I could just open up a new account just for my professional stuff and build a portfolio off that. Silly me!  So that's the plan. And it is now located at http://www.essveeart.daportfolio.com but nothing is up yet.

Hoping to hear back about printing t-shirts tomorrow night, otherwise I am going to craft night with some fellow art eddies :)

T-Shirt design contest

Celebration cinema was having a t-shirt design contest that ended tonight and I thought I would submit something quit just to take a stab at it.

Art Ed T-shirts

We have this inside joke of, "BAD EDDIE!" in our program. We always wanted to have "bad eddie" shirts and yesterday I doodled this up quick and scanned it in to see what it'd look like. I'm thinking of selling them at the artisan's table at the conference. The plan would be to buy 99cent shirts from SalArmy and then just sell the shirts for $5, people can pick whatever size/color they want.

Here is another with a different font. I think I like this one better then the above one.

Daisy's Big Swing (pages 1-3)

Been working hard (errr....) in Childrens Book Illustration on my book, Daisy's Big Swing. Here are the pencils of the first three pages (the third is not quite finished). The pages will be done in pencils, then watercolored and finished with colored pencil.

"One summery day, Daisy grew sick of her toys,
And went to play with the neighborhood boys."

"They loved to play baseball outside every day,
Any girls who came near were told, "Stay away!"

"But Daisy arrived with a glove and a bat.
"What are you doing?" The biggest boy spat."

That's all for now.  Good night!

Edit: *facepalm* I just realized how badly I need a new scanner.

Rocket football photos

My nephew is currently in football. I went to one of his games a couple weeks ago and took some "action shots".  He's #52.

They did win the game, and he played very well :)

(Sorry for the photo quality, I took the copies I posted on Facebook for my family and the resolution got lost between all the transferring)

Stippled self-portrait

In one of my education courses we did an example of a lesson plan on "spontaneous space" (black and white spaces that are open and blend into similar spaces but your eye closes the empty area). We needed a high contrast self portrait that was scribbled, cross hatched, or stippled. Here is my project.

This is the starting image.

The work in progress. About 3 hours into the piece.

The finished piece matted (crooked bottom cut, yuck!)

Finally, a close up shot.

Micron pen (01 and 05) on 7.5"x12" smooth bristol.

I'd still like to push some of the dark areas to up the contrast, and do a little more work on the hair, but it was due last week and needed to be turned in :)

That's it for now!
